Backed with more than 30 years of experience in biotechnology, detergence and probiotics — through aquaculture and farming —HTS BIO Laboratories has developed a novel cleaning product that combines an eco-friendly and effective cleaning formula with probiotic bacteria.
How are probiotic cleaners innovative?
PROBIOWAY®’s innovative approach is based on the mechanism in which safe, naturally-occurring probiotic bacteria are applied to a surface during the cleaning process.
Once applied, these healthy bacteria colonize the entire surface, thus protecting the surface from becoming colonized by unwelcome bacteria.
Why use the term “probiotic”?
Like food probiotics, surface probiotics have a positive impact on the human and animal health: they protect surfaces from harmful bacteria contaminants.
Take any surface, and you’ll find it is covered with a myriad of microorganisms. So, in very much the same way probiotics balance our gut microbiota, surface probiotics help restore a natural balance to surfaces.
Harmlessness of surface probiotic microorganisms
In addition, the probiotic bacteria selected for the formulation of PROBIOWAY® surface probiotics meet the same health safety requirements as food grade probiotics:
- Qualified presumption of safety (QPS)
- No antibiotic resistance according to the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority).
In fact, they are already being used in certain probiotic foods.
Effectiveness backed by science
Numerous scientific publications have already proven probiotic type cleaners to be effective in protecting surfaces from pathogenic bacteria colonization (Vandini et al. 2014. Hard Surface Biocontrol in Hospitals Using Microbial-Based Cleaning Products, PLoS one 9(9); Caselli et al. 2018. Reducing healthcare-associated infections incidence by a probiotic-based sanitation system: A multicenter, prospective, intervention study, PLoS one 13(7),…).
Similarly, our work in partnership with CNRS and INSERM(1) on 2 surface types (PVC and faience) has shown that our PROBIOWAY® probiotic cleaners are successful in depositing a healthy microflora of probiotic bacteria on surfaces thus protecting from contamination by 2 types of target pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia Coli) for at least 5 days.
From probiotic cleaners to immuno-cleaning
Given the disruptive nature of this prevention technology, HTS BIO Laboratories has elected to pen a brand-new definition to describe this novel cleaning concept. Welcome to the age of of immuno-cleaning: probiotic-based cleaning for surface biocontrol.
