3 years? The amount of time it took our team to develop a revolutionary solution aimed at biotreatment of water in aquaculture. Result? Indian company Mayank Aquaculture receives the prestigious India SME 100 Awards prize.
Each year, India SME 100 Awards recognize the most innovative projects,
as well as the projects that do the most to promote small and medium Indian businesses. This year, the company Mayank Aquaculture, along with its creator, Doctor Manoj Sharma, is one of the laureates of this prestigious prize, which encourages and supports the development of small businesses. The project? A sustainable shrimp farm in the coastal region of Surat (state of Gujarat), in northwestern India.
So, what is the connection between HTS BIO and Mayank Aquaculture?
During an HTS BIO mission in India, we met the very charismatic, humanistic (and super daddy) Doctor Manoj Sharma, who showed us his exciting project. Manoj, who began his career as a technician in a small shrimp farm, holds nowadays a doctorate in aquaculture. Quickly, he came to understand that breeding shrimp offered a chance of a lifetime for economic and social development in his region. So, he decided to embrace this cause as his calling, dedicating all his time to it. Through hard work and persistence, he was able to convince the inhabitants of the region of the value of the project, as well as the local institutions, who made a donation of more than 500 hectares of swampland. Soon, it became fertile ground.
Meanwhile, at HTS BIO, we worked closely with Manoj
to develop a biotreatment solution for breeding farm ponds. The solution includes three parts: VIVASOIL®, a biotreatment product at the bottom of the breeding pond; VIVAGROWTH®, probiotic additives, and VIVAPOND®, a biotreatment product for water. Made up of micro-organisms, the ‘Vivas’ are truly little pond fairies: they maintain the water’s quality, minimize the risk of illness and increase productivity, all while favoring the growth of shrimp and optimizing the survival rate. The treatment of aquaculture ponds and probiotic additives are very competitive sectors and we are up against giants. Perhaps it might have been easier for Manoj to turn to them. But, because he wanted this project to be durable, he chose to work with us. And we believe it has been a perfect fit because we are a human-scale company, with strong ethics and values, great know how and an immense desire to be players in his project.
Today, Mayank Aquaculture enables thousands of families to have a decent standard of living
and exports shrimps to numerous countries. And for HTS BIO, a new developer market is emerging, with great prospects for 2015, especially in the export market: Ecuador, Vietnam, Madagascar,… so many biotechno travels are anticipated!
