The Reunion Island luxury hotel is the first establishment in the Indian Ocean to obtain the prestigious European Ecolabel. And, not surprisingly, HTS BIO is there…
“True luxury is in nature”
Along with this slogan, the five stars say it all: luxury service and respect for the environment can be reconciled. The proof? The Palm Hotel and Spa has just been awarded the very prestigious European Ecolabel.
And it is striking: the hotel, tucked away in the hills, is at one with the nature that gives it its value. The hotel nestles in the heart of an enchanting, 3.5 hectare tropical garden; the bar lounge terrace (from which you may be lucky enough to spot whales passing in the bay) offers sublime views of the Indian Ocean and the Baie de Grand‘Anse, and the hotel benefits from proximity to Cirques, Pitons and Remparts, a site of natural beauty designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO…
Surrounded by so much natural beauty, we are reminded that, yes, true luxury is in nature.
Thanks to ECOWAY®, The Palm Hotel and Spa scores
We at HTS Bio are happy to announce that the five star Palm Hotel & Spa, has qualified for the European Ecolabel. We are especially proud because we had a part to play in that qualification: the hotel uses eco-designed products from our ECOWAY® professional range. This enabled them to score points towards the certification.
Eco-formulated for sustainability, ECOWAY® products do not need hazard labeling, are French-made and are people and planet-friendly. ECOWAY® is distributed on Reunion Island by SOLUBIO.
An exacting label
Awarded by AFNOR, an independent organization, the European Ecolabel is recognized by all countries of the European Union. Obtaining it is not easy and requires a great deal of dedication.
Contenders must satisfy 29 compulsory criteria in 4 categories:
- Reduction of energy and water consumption
- Waste sorting
- Use of products that are organic, fair-trade or local
- Creating awareness of the environmental crisis among clientele and staff
And once the label is in the bag, resting on one’s laurels is out of the question: compliance with Ecolabel criteria is strictly monitored every two years…
Environmental, economic and social: the benefits are manifold
While it is good for the environment, Ecolabel is also good for the hotel both economically and socially.
Tangible economic benefits are the direct result of measures implemented to meet the Ecolabel criteria. For example, all the hot water for the laundry and kitchens is now produced with solar energy, and water faucets are equipped with regulators that cut water volume in half. This results in a net decrease in total water and energy bills.
As for social benefits, ECOWAY® products are an excellent example. Just talk to the hotel staff: ECOWAY® products are people-friendly, providing greater ease of use (zero danger to skin, eyes and airways; no need to wear special equipment: gloves, masks, etc.)
Welcome to the clubs!
Established in 2007, the Palm Hotel & Spa entered the very select club of 300 French five-star establishments in 2012. With the acquisition of this European Ecolabel, the hotel not only joins the club of only 286 establishments with that distinction, but it is also the first in the Indian Ocean.
We warmly congratulate the entire team at the Palm Hotel & Spa for having chosen an environmental path, an… eco-way!
